As we entered the city, Aoife disappeared into the shops and Raggy zoomed into town with Byron’s cart, so I was left with Nohl, Hovan, and the plant man they dubbed as “Knifey”. Being it was a somewhat prosperous town, Nohl and Hovan took it upon themselves to arm Knifey with things like armor and weapons. The poor thing screamed after getting a little scratch our last fight, so I suppose that was a bright thing to do. So we got the boy covered up.
When they were all done, I decided to find a store with musical instruments, curious to see if anyone had any lutes. As I picked on out, there was a scream in the center of town apparently, and Hovan and Nohl went running, as did the rest of the town. I hung back and picked a few things out of the shop I was at while Knifey helped carry some of the heavier things I found. Knifey disappeared at some point to probably help, so I slowly made my way to the others through swarms of people running away from whatever was happening. As I finally entered the scene, I found Hovan, Nohl, and Knifey deep in battle with some rat men and large rats.
Eventually the rats were chased away and some townspeople helped us carry a rather leaky Knifey to the nearest inn and into the nicest room (my gift). As Nohl enjoyed the notfloor bed and Knifey recovered by the window, I tested out that lute I procured from the shop while Hovan ventured out of the room to find out some information. When he returned, he told us all the things he heard, about a captain of the guard who had disappeared, some disembodied laughter on the western side of town, and some cult of rats. Not a good lot of choices, but a better way to procrastinate from my errand.
I can’t remember what we chose to do, but suddenly we were wandering into a quiet side of town where a strange portal appeared and spewed out two huge slimy purple worms that blocked our path. They kept on appearing and disappearing, and for a moment, things seemed a bit grim, but some fanciful light show later, the worms were defeated by our dear friend Cardamom from the capital, who was apparently shunned from her place of work for aiding us before. More help for us, then.
